Plumbing is a GO!!!

The plumbing is FINALLY HAPPENING!!!!! And it looks like we're not going to have a gigantic trench in the concrete to work around. Hell yeah! What’s more, since they didn’t have to cut into the concrete there was room in the allocated budget for us to get a TANKLESS WATER HEATER! Tankless systems are so much better for the environment, use way less electricity and don’t require me to have a 50-100 gallon tank of water chilling out on the second floor. This is something I wanted to have for the store, but didn’t think we’d be able to get it until year two or three. So I’m super excited to have it when we open.

With the plumbing underway, we can start getting the bakery side out of construction and onto the phase where we make it pretty. This is going to involve cleaning, priming the walls, mudding the drywall, repairing and sanding the wooden wall and beams for refinishing and prepping the concrete for the new floors. So, loads fo stuff to get done.

We have two for sure dates in August for cleaning, repair, and preliminary painting work.

August 18 - Thursday evening from 4-8pm we're going to tackle sanding, cleaning, and walls in the dish washing area. You do not know how to do any of these things already, all skill levels are welcome.

August 27th - Saturday 10a - 1p. More cleaning! Probably. We're working on getting a professional in to get the really messy stuff so we can start priming the walls for paint. This is your opportunity to learn how to finish drywall, put on baseboards, sand or stain wood and so on.

For both dates, bring water and a mask that can handle dust (ie n95/kn95/etc). After we’ll grab burritos at our neighbor El Camion as a thank you for all your hard work.

Somewhere in there the electrician will start their work and then we go hard in September to get everything done in time for an inspection and opening the new store. If you can make either date, please RSVP to coffee@distantworldscoffee.com so I can plan which projects we can take on for any given date.
