Just what’s going on with the move?!?
So it turns out that renting a commercial space is REALLY complicated y’all. We signed the lease for our new home back in October, and paid the associated fees, with hopes to be able to start our part of the work sometime in late February. Seeing as it’s now February, that’s probably not going to happen. But here’s what is happening…
We’re happy to say that we’re working with a really great architect at Studio TJP (who is also a regular member of our community here in the store) on the layout and design of our new location. We have plans for creating an ADA accessible ramp inside the store, so those of you for whom stairs are a challenge don’t have to go outside to get between the two sides of the store. Construction on that ramp will be managed by the awesome team at Total Home Improvement Inc, along with a few other projects that we need the really BIG tools for.
Once the construction and demolition is done, we can let the electrician into the space. Feel free to pass on names of kick ass businesses we should know about, since the hunt for our electrician has been seriously impacted by the “labor shortage” (really more of a too much work available for not enough qualified humans). AND THEN! we get to start scrubbing the years of dirt away. Once we get to this point we will absolutely need extra hands for drywall patching and getting the inside ready for all the fun parts of building aka painting and laying floors and building counters.
Sadly we have zero timeline right now. We keep asking but unfortunately the landlord hasn’t been as forthcoming with details as we would like. We were really hoping to have our big party in late Spring, but it’s much more likely that we’re looking at a late Summer or early Fall opening. But stay tuned for more info as it comes available. And eventually work parties with pizza and beer or sodas, as is tradition.
