We have ignition!
A great deal can happen in the span of a week. We finally got a timeline from the landlord (we officially get the keys on March 15), approved a floor plan with our architect, gave the down payment to our General Contractor, signed the contract with our Electrician, AND bought the first bit of flooring from Second Use Building Materials. I’m exhausted just writing that…
We’re pretty excited about the flooring to be honest. If you’ve never been to Second Use in the SoDo area, it’s a treasure trove of vintage and new building materials, fixtures, lighting, furniture and RANDOM AF cool shit. Second Use works with construction and demolition companies in the greater Seattle and Tacoma area to keep totally awesome and still very useable materials out of landfills. The flooring we bought, vinyl composite tiles in two complementary shades of gray, was probably leftover from a different project (or two). It’s still brand new in the boxes and buying it “new” would have cost us WAY more money. We’re excited to do as much of our building and decorating from the materials they have. Currently eyeballing some of the bowling lane they have in Tacoma and dreaming of a high narrow table for bar seating in the window. Mmmmm coffee and street watching….
We’re also getting ready for our first work party on either March 27 or 28. This will mainly focus on deep cleaning the area under the hood where there’s a lot of yucky grease and grime, starting the demo on the stock room, and getting the office area somewhat useable. If you want to be included in this or any future work party, please fill out this Google Form so we know who to reach out to.
It feels good to have the first steps mapped out, and finally get this project off the ground. It’s going to be a HUGE amount of work, but holy heck are we excited to dig into it.
